Liz concludes her fine career with a T-29th finish at State!

Liz Carlson concluded her fine golfing career at Fremont with a tie for 29th place at the State Finals on the Legends Golf Course. Liz was tied for 15th after the first day by shooting a solid 81. However, on day 2 Liz didn't fare quite as well as cold temperatures, putting troubles, and big holes plagued her all day long. Nevertheless, Liz deserves to be congratulated on her impressive run through the postseason and her fine career as a Fremont "Lady Eagle" golfer.

Liz shoots an 81 on Day One of State!

Liz Carlson opened up her first round of the state finals in grand fashion in shooting a 3-over par 39 on her opening nine. However, Liz's back nine, which was the front nine on the score card was a little bit more of a roller coaster. Liz began that side with an uncharacteristic double bogey which included two chunked shots. Liz righted the ship though and ended up playing some good golf the rest of the way en route to a final tally of 81. Currently, Liz is sitting in a decent position, but only time will tell as the waiting game ensues. No matter what happens Liz has been an exceptional representative of the Fremont Lady Eagle golf program and Fremont schools. Great job Liz!!

Liz shoots an outstanding 74 in rainy day

Liz Carlson teed off at the Regional golf tournament at 9:45 a.m. on the Noble Hawk Golf Links Saturday morning. Her round was full of ups and some downs, but all in all Liz did what she had to do to get the ball in the hole and shoot an outstanding 74. Immediately after Liz signed her scorecard the rains began to pour. The concern became whether or not Liz's score would count. With some of the field still on the front nine, had play not resumed Liz would have had to play again on Monday. However, per the IHSAA, if half the field was able to complete their rounds then all of those scores would hold up. At 7:45 p.m. when darkness stopped play for good, 38 players out of the 72 were done. Obviously all parties involved breathed a sigh of relief that Liz's score held up. Play will resume at 1:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon, we can only hope that Liz's score is good enough and she will be playing in the IHSAA State Finals for a second straight year on Friday. Good job Liz and good luck!!!

Laura Dennis didn't shoot a good last round, but has to be applauded for her fine career at the Varsity level. Liz's round gives her her third regional berth in four years. Good job ladies and good luck Liz!!

Nick shoots 87 at Regionals

Nick got off to a solid start on the first hole at the Regionals on Thursday at Orchard Ridge Country Club on a rain-plagued round of golf. With an easy par on hole 1 it seemed Nick was ready to roll, however, an errant tee shot on hole 2 was a sign of things to come. Nick went on to double bogey the hole and struggled through the rest of his round en route to an 87. The result today was in no way an indication Nick's golf season or career at Fremont. Even in his struggles, Nick maintained a good attitude and was not in any way a poor sport. Nick will move on to bigger and better things in life, but for the time being he will be considered one of Fremont's best golfers of the recent past and more importantly a great individual.

Golf team sixth at Sectionals, Nick breaks school-record with 69

The Varsity golf team went in to the Sectionals on Friday understanding that they would need to shoot better than they did at the conference meet. The team did, but unfortunately not by enough. Starting on the back nine, the team struggled out of the gate with a 171 on the back nine. Nick, Austin, and Brandin kept it together pretty well even with the score being the way that it was. The front nine was flat out amazing. Led by Nick Herndon's 33 on the front, the team scored a 151 on that side to have a team total of 327. A 327 was good enough for sixth place. The story of the day was Nick Herndon's 69, which by the way is the NEW school-record. Nick's score was tied for medalist with Michael Sharp of East Noble. Nick lost on the extra hole with a par to Sharp's birdie. Homestead won the Sectional with a 292, Carroll shot 305, DeKalb shot 316 to round out the top three and will move on to Regionals at Orchard Ridge on Thursday. Angola takes two from the Eagles

The Angola Hornets came in to Lake James and looked like the home team on the front nine. That could be because most of their players live on it, or it could be that the Eagles struggled so much. Either way, Tuesday night's match was a tough one to take. The team had a lone bright spot in terms of scoring with Austin Corcimiglia's 41. The team also had Tyler Jenkins fight through a rough first hole to score a 50. The team will regroup and come back stronger on Thursday night against Blackhawk. The Eagles had an eight shot lead at the turn in recording a team score of 163 through nine holes. Unfortunately, the team struggled on the back nine en route to a total team score of 341. Leading the Eagles in scoring was Nick Herndon, who began his senior campaign with a fine round of 75, which was good enough for a tie for medalist.
