Eagles drop two to Prairie Heights and Garrett

The varsity Eagle golf team knew it had to play a confident, smart round of golf to defeat the much improved Prairie Heights Panthers.  Unfortunately, the short games of the Eagles showed some rust and inconsistency and that was the difference in the match.  The team will continue to pursue excellence and still has some time to work themselves into shape for the upcoming season-ending grind.  The team really didn't have a bright spot, but it was led by Austin Corcimiglia who shot 45.  Jordon Schmucker, Brody Dunn, and Seth Wirick each shot 49s.  The losses drop the team's record to 3-4 overall, 3-2 in the NECC.

The JV team played very well as several players stepped up their games to win two decisions.  The team's score of 189 was three better than the varsity team's score.  The team had rounds of 46 from Brandon Arnos, 47 from Jeffrey Herndon, and 48s from the Papenbrock boys.  The wins put the team's record at 5-2 overall, 4-1 in the NECC.  Good job guys!

Eagles split on rainy night

The Eagle golf team traveled to Heron Creek on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Lakeland Lakers and Central Noble Cougars.  The weather was typical of this season, cold and rainy.  The Eagles were washed away by the weather with the exception of Austin Corcimiglia.  Austin's 40 paced the team and was the lone bright spot for the struggling Eagle golfers.  Jordon Schmucker shot 49, Collin Sherburne shot 53 and Justin Papenbrock shot 56 to round out the scoring.  Lakeland's 170 and Central Noble's 215 gave the team a split.  The split put the team's record at 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the NECC.

The JV team played pretty well on the other side of Heron Creek to shoot a 198, losing to Lakeland by a shot and beating Central Noble by forfeit.  Seth Wirick's 46 led the team, Brody Dunn shot 48, Austin Papenbrock shot 51, Brandon Arnos shot 53, and Mitchel Long shot 55.  The split put the team's record at 3-2 overall, 3-1 in the NECC.  Good job guys!

Eagle golfers start off NECC season right, win two!

The varsity boys' golf team got its NECC conference season started right.  With two victories, one over Westview and the other over Hamilton, the team sits atop the conference at 2-0.  The team shot a 181 to Westview's 213 to Hamilton's 247.  The team used a nice anchor score from Austin Corcimiglia (41) to get it started right.  Collin Sherburne and Justin Papenbrock each shot 46, and Jordon Schmucker finished strong to card a 48.  The team's record is now 2-1, 2-0 in the NECC.  Good job guys!!  The team will be back in action on Saturday at the South Adams Invite.

The JV boys also played well enough to win their match against Westview.  Hamilton had no team, thus forfeited the match versus the Eagles.  The JV won 207-265.  Leading Fremont was Brody Dunn with a 50, Mitchel Long shot well to card a 51, Seth Wirick shot 52, and Jeffrey Herndon shot a 54.  The win puts the team's record at 2-1 overall, 2-0 in the NECC.

Eagle golfers fall short to Northridge!

The varsity boys' golf team knew it had its hands full with the Northridge Raiders.  A team that has qualified for the Regionals on 10 consecutive tries, Northridge boasts a proud tradition. We do too, and we weren't going to go down without a fight.  The Eagles fell just short by a score of 180 to 168 on Lake James' front nine.  Leading Fremont was Collin Sherburne whose 42 was well done.  Colt Penner and Jordon Schmucker chipped in 44s to help the Eagle cause.  The loss put the team's record at 0-1.  The team will be back in action tomorrow against the Westview Warriors and Hamilton Marines.  Good luck guys!

The JV team also fell short to the Raiders by a score of 203 to 193.  Leading the team was Austin Papenbrock with a 49, Seth Wirick shot 50, Brody Dunn shot 51, Mitchel Long shot 53, Jeffrey Herndon and Kyle Boekhout each shot 54.  The loss dropped the JV team's record to 0-1.

Weather, Wind, New Course gets the best of Varsity boys, JV plays well!

The Varsity boys' golf team played one of the worst rounds in the program's storied history on Saturday at Black Squirrel Golf Club.  Yes, the weather was treacherous, but clearly many teams were able to overcome the elements to shoot decent scores.  However, BIG numbers and poor course management plagued the majority of the Eagles.  A big highlight of the match was Justin Papenbrock's eighth hole.  Holing a shot from 120 yards gave the junior a nice birdie.  That hole propelled Justin to a team-best 100.  Austin Corcimiglia was plagued the entire back nine with the dreaded "shank" shot and fired a 103.  Colt Penner came back from a front-nine 55 to shoot 105.  Collin Sherburne started off horribly and shot 106.  Finally, Jordon Schmucker had a 108.  The team's score of 414 placed the Eagles at 12th out of 14 teams. The guys will learn from this experience and bounce back, but it will take a concerted effort on all of their parts to "step up" their level of effort and game management or the season will be a long one!  The team is back in action on Monday at home against Northridge.  Good luck guys!

The JV team played a good round at Round Barn Golf Club on Saturday.  The team's attitudes were spot on all day as they persevered to shoot a 410 in really tough conditions.  Leading Fremont was Brody Dunn whose 99 was solid, Seth Wirick shot 101, AP shot 103, Brandon Arnos shot 106, and Kyle Boekhout shot a 110.  The team shot 410.

Eagle Golfers begin 2013 Campaign

The Varsity Eagle golf team took to the road early Saturday morning.  Their destination was the Triton Invitational and Rozella Ford Golf Club in Warsaw.  The team hoped to get off to a good start, but it was hard to gauge how well the season would start considering the lack of practice time so far this season.  The team had great attitudes all day, as well as solid mental game.  Leading Fremont, as will be the case most of this season. was Austin Corcimiglia with an 83.  Collin Sherburne played well and shot 92.  Brody Dunn came back on the back nine to shoot 96, finally Seth Wirick rounded out the scoring with 99.  The team finished 5th out of 11 teams. Winamac won the event with a 344.  The team will look to improve this upcoming week and get ready to take on Fairfield and Eastside Thursday.  Good job and good luck guys.

The JV team traveled to Indiana Nationala Golf Club in Plymouth to compete in the LaVille Invitational.  Despite cold temps and windy conditions, Justin Papenbrock broke 100 to shoot 97.  Jeffrey Herndon shot 102, Austin Papenbrock shot 108, Brandon Arnos shot 112, and finally Kyle Boekhout shot 114.
