Golf team plays well at Conference, falls short to Fairfield

The Varsity Eagle golf team put a good "team effort" together on Saturday at Noble Hawk Golf Links in the NECC Tournament. The team was once again solid from top to bottom in securing a third place finish with a score of 328. Fairfield won the event with an impressive 305, Lakeland was second with a 320. The team was paced by All-Conference recipients Nick Herndon (78) and Tyler Jenkins (80). Honorable Mention recipients were Austin Corcimiglia (83) and Jordon Schmucker (87). Finally, Brandin Ross shot 96 to conclude the team's scoring. The team now sets its sights on the Sectional Tournament, which is June 3rd. The team has a shot, as always, of advancing to the Regionals if each player buys into "team golf" and play the way they are capable of. Good job Eagles and congratulations to the All-Conference members and the Honorable Mention All-Conference members.

Golf team has fun!

Coach Arndt instructed the golf team to make sure they do one thing on Friday night and that one thing was to have fun. The team was allowed to wear any type of clothing they chose and they took full advantage of the opportunity. Although we may have looked somewhat ridiculous, the team did have fun and played a loose brand of golf en route to their second best round of the year. The team was led by senior captain Nick Herndon's medalist round of 35, Austin Corcimiglia continued his solid play with a 41, Jordon Schmucker came through with a 42, finally Tyler Jenkins and Brandin Ross concluded the scoring with 44's. Angola takes two from the Eagles

The Angola Hornets came in to Lake James and looked like the home team on the front nine. That could be because most of their players live on it, or it could be that the Eagles struggled so much. Either way, Tuesday night's match was a tough one to take. The team had a lone bright spot in terms of scoring with Austin Corcimiglia's 41. The team also had Tyler Jenkins fight through a rough first hole to score a 50. The team will regroup and come back stronger on Thursday night against Blackhawk. The medalist of the match was James Clary with a 40. The loss put the team's record at 7-3-1 overall, 7-2 in the NECC.

The Junior Varsity also lost their match on Tuesday. The score was 225 to 215. The lone bright spot for the team was Justin Papenbrock's 51. The loss put the team's record at 8-3 overall, 6-3 in the NECC.
